Overcoming Unresourceful States for Success
Welcome to my first blog! I want my blogs to be full of value to I’m going straight in there with a topic, that if you fully take on board and implement, will really sat you on the path to successful and sustainable weight loss!
In NLP we say “there are no unresourceful people, only unresourceful states”.
So what is an unresourceful state? Well simply put, it’s a feeling that’s not doing you any favours. Unresourceful states are usually negative and unproductive.
Let me give you a very broad example: A musician may have rehearsed a performance many times and be able to do their piece perfectly – when no one is watching. When they have an audience they just can’t do it as well. It’s not that they can’t do it perfectly! They are just in an unresourceful state of stage fright, overwhelm or nerves.
Taking Control: How Your State Shapes Your Weight Loss Journey
State is our way of being in any given moment. It’s a combination of our thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours at all times. Our state impacts everything we do!
- It impacts how we perform tasks
- It impacts our relationships
- It impacts how we talk to ourselves
- And ultimately all of the above impact our weight loss!
So… this email is, of course, coming to you from a weight loss angle, and you’ve probably put 2 and 2 together now and realised that it’s more than likely that we reach for high fat, high sugar and high calories foods when we are in an unresourceful state.
Many people believe our state – how we feel – is controlled by external factors and what happens outside of our own mind and body. But in NLP we believe that we have a choice! That whatever happens outside of our control, only we choose – control – how we respond to it.
Imagine if you could change your state? The opposite of unresourceful is resourceful…
Imagine if you could go from negative to positive in an instant and the effect that would have on your relationship with food?
Empower Yourself: Breaking the Cycle and Taking Control
Imagine when you are feeling down, or disappointed, or bored, or insert your own word here! Imagine if you didn’t dive head first into the biscuit barrel? Imagine instead taking control of that emotion and turning it around. Imagine how empowered you’ll feel knowing that food is no longer the answer.
Imagine how you’ll feel when you get that weight loss you really want.
Everything we think affects how we feel and how we feel affects what we do.
It’s time to take back control! My members are learning how to find their resourceful states and are making huge progress because of it.
Here’s a couple of top tips:
- Get in the habit of asking yourself ‘Do I want?’ So, Do I want to be feeling this way? Do I want to be behaving this way? If the answer is no then change your state.
- There are many ways to change your state but one of the easiest to remember is to just change your body language. Get up and walk around, take a couple of deep breaths, move your body so you have a different view, or try the super hero pose! Feet hip width apart, stand up straight, shoulders back, hands on hips and look to the sky! It’s beyond empowering. Try it… I dare you!
